Last night my husband and I went along to hear Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg's talk on raising resilient girls. 🙌🏻 If you're like me then you probably have a healthy dose of worry about your kids and their future and whether or not, as a parent, you're doing everything you can to help them flourish. 🌺🌻🌼 The talk was amazing and full of insights from the Dr's years of experience listening to and helping adolescent and teenage kids. ✨ One thing he said that really hit me was that as parents we are raising the most vulnerable generation of all time. Tech and the digital age has introduced a whole other element that influences our kids that we, as parents, have to navigate. 👽 Having not ourselves lived through anything remotely similar, has me FREAKING OUT about parenting through this time and wondering how to combat the negative effects it can bring to our kids but at the same time embracing the positive because this is the world we live in now. 👀 In other words, teaching our kids to be resilient. 💪🏼 The Dr spoke about the importance of spending time together as a family and creating simple rituals. For example, sitting down together every night for a meal - no devices- to talk and listen to each other. Or, every night when the kids are in bed, asking them to tell you "What were the 3 best things that happened today?" 👌🏻 These are just simple things we can do for our family that goes a long way to helping our kids feel connected and to practice looking at life in a positive way. 🌝 He also spoke about the importance of setting boundaries and not giving our children everything they want and allowing them to experience adversity 😭. If you're like me and left the hospital without your baby's accompanying instruction manual 😂, then I highly recommend looking up Dr Michael Carr-Gregg (and Steven Biddulph too) because their books and teachings are the next best thing! 😃😃😃
